Time has come to take Software Lifecycle Management out of Stone-Age

In most companies the documentation of existing business process and enterprise architecture are missing, outdated, or detached from the actual development. High-level or Low-level IT solution design documents with requirements lists are still being created and maintained manually and in isolation. Processes are documented in one tool; architecture drawings are documented in another tool and projects and changes are managed in a spreadsheet or stand-alone project management tool. All tools are detached from the actual software development work and management of the digital transformation related to the Value Chain landscape and all layers of the IT ecosystem.

It’s easy to understand why agile teams or developers do not want to update such documentation because it is additional work that takes time away from the actual development and it’s not being used. But the result is that Digital transformation initiatives again and again are spending 15 – 30 % of the total project budget in analyzing and documenting existing and new business processes and requirements and impacted parts of the IT ecosystem before the real value creation can start.

Qlorem aims to bring Software development out of stone-age.

Qlorem provides an AI powered Live Solution Execution tool, supported by a unique Dynamic Digital Twin of an Organization (DDTO) approach. With Qlorem its possible to:

· Reduce cost for solution specification and management by 30% by connecting it to the actual development throughout the whole lifecycle.

· Reduce the test & defect cost by 20% through Shift-left testing of the requirements

· Improve the benefit realization by 50%+ by connecting business and IT personnel into a shared and live view of what’s is going on versus what objectives is set.

In Qlorem we have identified 5 use cases for live solutioning which will revolutionize Software Lifecycle Management way of work, see picture below:

Qlorem AI driven DDTO closes the Software Lifecycle Management loop

1. Pre-study phase, including Request for Proposal (RFP) process

In a pre-study phase most companies starts from scratch creating a list of requirements for a new initiative either in a spreadsheet or text editor. Consultants are often hired to document as-is and to-be which takes time and is often very costly. Then multiple Vendors are asked to respond to Request for Proposal (RFP). The whole process is totally manual without possibility to seeing the impact on on-going digital transformation initiatives and parallel maintenance and compliance changes. In an agile development world, changes are constantly being made, so when the contractual scope is signed with a vendor, the value chain landscape and IT ecosystem has changed. Since all relevant information is detached from each other, it is hard if not impossible, to identify the impact to the list of requirements.

Qlorem provides a dynamic Live model of the new solution scope with the relation to the newly defined functional gaps dependent on existing value chains, IT landscape and the existing project portfolio initiatives. It’s a dynamic Digital Twin of the Organization (DDTO) which can be made changes to, and which are in sync with on-going initiatives and your As-Is Process landscape and IT landscape in production. Qlorem makes it possible to automate the RFP process for customers and vendors to show live how they support the requirements, and this information is kept live throughout the whole solution lifecycle.

2. Planning phase, including Program Increment planning & Release planning

Agile program increment planning and release planning has become the new mantra in software development process and several tools are supporting this process. The Product Manager and autonomy Agile team developers uses best effort of what should be prioritized, however its often detached from initial vision and parallel initiatives.

Qlorem provides a transparent joint Program Increments & release planning of dependent epics from different solution multiple and cross-enterprise providers in a timely manner based on the live solution. Qlorem provides live update of critical dependencies and path management of parallel projects & changes to value chains and IT ecosystem. Finally, Qlorem supports all Levels of digital transformation stakeholders from Business and IT C-Level to program-, project-, and product managers to the Agile development team with a collaborative live solution planning and reporting tool. Qlorem provides role-based overviews of the value and quality creation, self-diagnosis and unforeseen issues and potential delays supported by the AI powered Digital Transformation and DDTO Analyzer.

3. Specification & Development phase

Today epics, user stories and use cases are documented directly into Application Lifecycle Management (ALM) tools like Jira, Octane etc. by the product manager or the agile team developer themselves. However, epics, user stories and use cases are often created based on outdated process, solution- and architecture documentation. In essence, the requirements specification and development work are often detached and based on outdated input from the Business and IT Management priorities.

Qlorem provides a direct link to ALM solutions for epics and dependencies between different processes and solution providers, where the developers follow up the actual development of code. Qlorem provides live epic progress tracking of changes, functional gaps, and integrations in development with impact assessments related to value, quality creation and potential delays. In addition, Qlorem provides live updates to the initial solution specifications, cross-organizational feedback loops, and multi-stakeholder sign-off functionality to keep all stakeholder and deliveries in sync throughout the whole lifecycle.

4. Testing phase

Test automation has become common practice in most organizations and there are Test Automation tools making the testing more efficient. However, the automation and test tools does not help reducing the number of defects, they help finding the defects earlier. The cost of detecting and fixing defects in software increases exponentially with time in the software development workflow. Most defects end up costing more than it would have cost to prevent them. Defects are expensive when they occur, both the direct costs of fixing the defects and the indirect costs because of damaged relationships, lost business, and lost development time, see picture below:

Qlorem AI Driven Shift Left Testing reduces cost dramatically

Qlorem provides a direct link to Test automation tools for acceptance criteria and automated test cases. Qlorem provides an opportunity to simulate the scenarios of implementing changes to the future Value Chain landscape and IT ecosystem and finding potential defect areas and weak spots which needs to be specified better and removed before the actual development has started. During testing phase Qlorem AI-powered DDTO provides heat-maps of areas where Quality of Code is poor and organizational and technical bottlenecks exists, so management can take pro-active actions hence reducing the time and cost for fixing defects dramatically.

5. Maintenance & Compliance

One of the most common challenges in Digital transformation programs, is that Maintenance & Compliance tasks related to the IT ecosystem is managed separately. IT operation tends to prioritize related issues higher than to support digital transformation initiatives that quite often fall back on the same resource pool. The consequence is that on-going problems and changes are being done without any impact assessment of the digital transformation initiatives. This jeopardizes the whole digital journey and worst case it makes the digital transformation a moving and unmanageable target.

Qlorem Connector layer is always up to date with changes to the Value Chain map and the multi-layer of the IT eco-system in production no matter who makes the change. Qlorem AI-powered DDTO Analyzer provides live update and impact analysis on and all changes to production, including maintenance and compliance tasks so management can take well-informed decisions on areas which are flagged as critical to resolve.
